Valley
The Maipo valley bounds to the east with the Andes Mountains and to the west with the Coastal Mountains, with a natural gradient from 1.000 m over sea level at east to 500 m average over sea level at west. This topography makes vineyards extends in a smooth slope. Generally, vineyards follow the course of the Maipo river from the Andes bottom to the southwest of Santiago. Our vineyards are located right there, at about 400 m over sea level.
This zone called High Maipo Valley ("Valle del Maipo Alto") is greatly influenced by the vicinity of the Andes bottom. Winds coming from the mountains moderate high summer temperatures, cooling nights enough. In fact, thermal oscillation may reach 20º C (About 70º F). This high difference in temperature increases the sweetness of the grapes and obtains greater tannin finesse.
The annual average temperature is 14º C. Rain concentrates from April to September with an annual average of 330 mm
