History

Owned by the Italian Ravenna family resident in Chile since the middle of last century and who settled in the Maipo Valley, close to the Andes Mountains. Although they devoted themselves to cattle breeding (livestock raising) and agronomy, they never forgot their dream of growing grapevines, as they did in there native Reggio Emilia, where they produced and elaborated fine grappa.

Francesco Ravenna Rivara died a few years after his arrival to Chile, without having fulfilled this desire. From then on, his son Pietro Ravenna Leonardini (who had arrived from Italy with him, and also his mother and sister ) kept that dream in mind and when he became a successful businessman in the early eighties, he created a small winery to begin the production of wines buying grapes to third parties. But a tragic accident that occurred in the winery, drove away once more the family from that activity.

So, it was not until the nineties, exactly in 1992, that Francisco Ravenna Zamora, leader of the family at that time, associated himself with two outstanding professionals, Mr Victor Pinto Lopez and Sergio Gajardo Romo (both agriculture engineers and entrepreneurs) and planted Cabernet Sauvignon stocks over the first 35 Has.of Cachantun farm, located on Huelquen district.

From the very first time their aim was to produce grapes of the highest quality and sell them to the most important wineries at premium prices, taking advantage of the excellent microclimate and soil conditions of Huelquen's land to produce Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

In 1995, associated with other producers, they built a winery and began the production and marketing of wines. In 1999 Viña Huelquen began to bottle their wines in small quantities, getting excellent quality and good market reception.
